Fresh Fruit: The Weight Of Silence
The Weight Of Silence
What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
At the start we used to be called Nailed, but we changed to The Weight Of Silence when it was made clear that the name Nailed sucked.
Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
We are from San Remo, a small town near Phillip Island. It is the home of penguins, pingers and motorsport.
Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Alistair “Benny” Ehmke (guitar, infinite winning!); Riley “Riz” Fransen (bass, can hold more ink than the human body can handle); Nic Woods (drums, can talk to chicks); Ben “Buffalo” Pugh (vocals, can eat 20 burgers in one sitting).
Name your three biggest influences.
The Dillinger Escape Plan, Lamb Of God, and I Killed The Prom Queen.
What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
Buffalo’s gross facts or “Where are the beers at?”
What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
Setting up the show usually! And a couple of stretches.
Tell us about your most memorable show.
It was our first ever show. We played a university for Oktoberfest and shit got wild. We had broken bones, broken beer steins, public urination and an ambulance pull up side of stage mid set. Fucking wild!
What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
Parkway Drive. They are the driving force for Aussie metal overseas. We’re looking forward to sharing the stage with them at Unify Gathering.
What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
Our latest release is the single “Burn It Down” which came out at the end of last year. Our last EP, Written With A Broken Quill, is available on our Bandcamp and features a single with four live tracks. We’ve recently been recording for a new album which we plan to release early this year.
If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Gucci, no doubt!
Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
We are a hard-working band that have high energy live shows, talented musicians and a solid back catalogue.
Who has the best beard in rock?
Our man Buffalo rocks a pretty good beard. It’s up there with ZZ Top!
