Questions answered by Ruby Markwell [vocals, guitar], Leah Romero [guitar] and Vanessa Grillo [keys].

What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
R: We were Footscray Antisocial Club for, like, half a week! [Laughs]

Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
R: The motherhecking ‘Scray!
L: The Franco Cozzo mural – the “furniture” king of the west!

Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Leah Romero: lead guitar – planner power.
Ruby Markwell: lead vocals, guitar – MEME QUEEN.
Vanessa Grillo: backing vocals, keys – eyebrows.
Lee Jackievic: drums – can demolish a double Quarter Pounder meal quicker than you can say “heart failure”.
Adriano Pruscino: bass – has more empty Maccas cups in his car than stars in the sky.

Name your three biggest influences.
R: Probably Elliott Smith and Sebadoh, Weezer (the first two records), and Hole. Also, these days, a lot of Speedy Ortiz and Trust Fund – two very cool, new-ish bands.

What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
L: Usually details from the last night’s frick-fracking adventure.
R: We love to frack.
V: Memes.

What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
L: Get there before the sound engineer does, wonder where the other bands are, and drink wine.

Tell us about your most memorable show.
L: We played a sold-out Northcote Social show with Ocean Alley; that was cool.
R: I like the shit shows where everything goes wrong – like that time we played three nights in a row and I was k-holing hard onstage for the last night.

What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
L: KING GIZZARD!
R: Camp Cope would be cool! Super cool words with super cool arrangements!

What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
R: God Forbid Anyone Look Me In The Eye by Two Steps On The Water.
L: It’s not exactly out yet, but the songs coming from The Growlers’ new album, City Club, are making my inner beach-goth wet.

What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
R: Our second EP, Songs About Friends, came out on September 30th! You should buy it because we say ‘fuck’ a lot.

If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
R: If we could get a Passion Pop sponsorship, it probably wouldn’t increase the amount of Passion Pop I drink – it would merely subsidise my addiction. That, or sugar free Rockstar. Breakfast of champions. [Can vouch – Ed.]
L: Barilla pasta. I’d save a lot of money.

Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
R: Because we are fueled by the great taste and powerful energy hit of sugar free Rockstar, the best energy drink on the market!

Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
V: Scott Ian, when it was red. It just looked like he ate a chick out and her tampon was just hanging there.
R: Wow. Lee tried to attach a picture of Chad Kroeger smiling to this, but it didn’t work.
