Fresh Fruit: RVLS
Kalie: We almost went with Dreamers when the band first started -I can tell you right now, I am SO glad that we didn’t [laughs]. RVLS is way cooler, in my opinion.
Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
Seb: We’re from Los Angeles, so I’m gonna go ahead and say the Hollywood sign, most likely. Or the Santa Monica Pier.
Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Kalie: I’m really good with marketing, photoshop… Pretty much anything computer-based, I’m usually pretty decent at. I’m also really good at Fallout [laughs].
Micket: I can build stuff [laughs].
Justin: I’m gonna go with talking -I’ve always been really good at talking to strangers and befriending them.
Name your three biggest influences.
Kalie: The Neighbourhood, Bring Me The Horizon and 30 Seconds To Mars.
Seb: Motley Crüe, The Plot In You and California.
Micket: Black Sabbath, Atreyu and Bring Me The Horizon.
Justin: Circa Survive, Queen and Paramore.
What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
Kalie: It typically starts with some type of business conversation – we really like to hop onto it and get started. We’re really big on strategising: we meet up at least once, if not twice a week – it’s how we stay on top of everything we do.
What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
Kalie: I usually have a beer, then I listen to Cane Hill and get creepy [laughs].
Seb: Pre-show cig and stretching.
Micket: Stretching, soda, and looking over all my gear.
Christian: Rudiments, stretching, and applying generous amounts of face paint.
Tell us about your most memorable show.
Kalie: There have been SO many great shows, it’s super rare that I don’t have a good time. I’d say Connecticut was cool on our last run – tons of kids actually moshed, which never happens [laughs]. Or on the Homecoming tour, our last date was Flagstaff – like, three people showed up, but the bands all supported each other extremely hard. We all went crazy, and we left the place with glitter everywhere. It was insane.
Seb: Chain Reaction on the Emo Is Back tour – that was the last day of our five week tour. All of our friends and families came out and the house was packed. It was such a great time.
Micket: Warped Battle Of The Bands finals. It was at House Of Blues in Hollywood, and was in our first few months of being a band. We ended up playing at the Warped Tour in Arizona, which was a really cool experience.
What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
Kalie: I’m gonna say The Neighbourhood – although it makes zero sense to our genres, I would die a bit inside every single time I get to see them live. They have so much passion in their music, and it makes me feel hard. I’d love to share the stage with such talented people.
Seb: Bring Me The Horizon, because they’re great and have been a huge influence on our writing for this next record.
Micket: Paramore, ’cause it would be awesome.
Justin: Muse, so I can see them for free every single day, and because I’ve seen videos of how awesome their live show is.
What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
Kalie: I’ve been rocking Tove Lo a lot recently. Or Melanie Martinez; Cry Baby is great too.
Seb: Sick by Sylar.
Micket: That’s The Spirit by Bring Me The Horizon.
What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
Haunted/Hunted, and because it really shows us as a band – although our new record is going to be much harder and darker, it’s still a great showcase of what we’re about.
If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Kalie: Sephora and UNIF. And DEMOBAZA!
Seb: Omega Orange and Fender.
Micket: Mountain Dew.
Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
Kalie: Honestly, the heart we have for this – the passion, and the fire that I know burns inside all of us. We work our butts off, we refuse to quit and there isn’t a moment we doubt that we can do it. Being in a band and building your way up is a full-time job. It’s rough, ’cause most of us are stuck in shitty situations, financially, because every dime we get, we throw towards this. But in the end, to us, it’s worth it. I suppose maybe it’s in our blood and we are built to do this. I think our drive is what will get us there – and our insane live shows [laughs].
Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Seb: Micket from RVLS 😜
Kalie: I agree with Seb here [laughs].
