What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
Literally hundreds of terrible names were suggested, none of which have stood the test of time, in my mind. We probably had suggested to us every animal and food you could ever think of. We went with the simplest one – I reckon all band names are rubbish until you put music to them, at which point it doesn’t really matter.

Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
We’re both from Sydney, but I grew up in Belgium, where the most famous landmark is a statue of a child pissing fountain water. Google “Manneken Pis”, it’s hilarious.

Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
John-Henry – drums and indecision.
Novak – vocals/guitar and eating.

Name your three biggest influences.
Jean-Claude Van Damme, cheeseburgers, and Scottie Pippen.

What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
How we really, really need to find somewhere to practice that’s not 9pm to midnight.

What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
Drink beer, drink water, repeat. Avoid Mexican food.

Tell us about your most memorable show.
Our EP launch a few months back was our first proper headline show. Crowd surfing, heavy handed security, blood, sweat – it had it all… Including people not getting let into the venue because they were wearing Nike sneakers; “Those are drug dealer’s shoes”. Seriously, Sydney?

What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
Jeff Goldblum. He apparently does a jazz piano show in an LA bar regularly.

What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
John recently introduced me to PUP, who are rad.

What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
The first single off our debut album is out now! I’m not gonna tell you to buy it. Go and listen to it and buy it if you like it.

If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Neurofen, or any other purveyor of that sweet, sweet ibuprofen.

Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
I’ve got a very low centre of gravity, so I’m hard to knock down. I can also take a hell of a beating. Wait, what are we talking about again?

Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
The lead singer from Smash Mouth. SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME… Now you have that song stuck in your head. But really, Luciano Pavarotti.
