What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
None, really. We both discussed ideas for this project/band and we decided that we wanted something nice-sounding that looked pretty written down, so I dunno. Palindromes are great, and adding “band” at the end was more a way of injecting subtle humour, because it’s obvs a band.

Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
We grew up in a small surfy town on the Central Coast; main landmarks included bowling clubs and roundabouts. We now live in the Inner West – notable landmarks include high rent, low wages, etc.

Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Marnie [Vaughn] plays the drums and vocals. Her superpower is unending amounts of optimism.
I’m Nathan [Martin], I do vocals and baritone guitar. My super power is endless pessimism.

Name your three biggest influences.
Sydney DIY, the crushing weight of existence, and personal politics / social behavior patterns.

What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
Ciggy break, then a long chat about how all our friends’ bands are much better than we are. (Re: Oslow, Jess Locke, Sweater Season, Mere Women, Carb On Carb, Arafura, Home Burial, Snape, Canine, Midwife, ect.)

What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
Ciggies, sing REM and/or blink 182 songs, and nervous chit chat with other bands.

Tell us about your most memorable show.
Sad By Sad West – a DIY festival which featured poetry, visual art and bands. It was basically all of our favorite people sharing their talents with each other.

What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
(*share the floor at Black Wire with) Our friends’ bands, cuz #friendsrule

What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
The new Ted Danson With Wolves EP (Don’t Tell Me What’s Wrong With You, Because I Will Find Out And Tell You. It Will Make Sense To You And Work). It’s very good and they are better than everyone else at music and DIY.

What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
Our third album, Quitting Will Improve Your Health. It’s available digitally on our BandCamp for free, or get physical copies through Black Wire Records and Lesstalk Records.

If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Can someone please pay our rent while we tour? That’d be sweet.

Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
I dunno. We’re pretty happy being bottom feeders, to be honest.

Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Hannahband endorse the clean shaven angel face look. But our fave beards would have to be Matheson and Rivs (Lesstalk Records), Tom Scott (Black Wire Records), and Dave Drayton (Draytone Industries).

Wrap your ears around Hannahband’s latest single “Bath Arms” below!

Quitting Will Improve Your Health is out now via Black Wire and Lesstalk Records
