What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
We were close to calling ourselves Awakening The Abyss or Ghosts Of Us, but we figured the name Greylands could relate to multiple meanings through the music we will be putting out.

Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
We are from Sydney and Perth. The abandoned Greylands mental health facility would be the most recognised landmark to us.

Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Vocalist – Mat Jekel: The Power of Manipulation, professional asshole but all around nice guy.
Guitarist / backup vocalist – White: The power of making women moist whilst doing anti-gravity backflips (always shirtless).
Lead Guitarist – Kieran Sasse: The power of superfast fingering… Because he fingers really fast on those frets.
Bassist -James Owen: He can grow dreadlocks really quickly.
Drummer -Peter Gabriel: He has the power of hitting the china so many fucking times… Breakdowns, yo!

Name your three biggest influences.
Veil of Maya, Parkway Drive and Periphery.

What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
We usually psych ourselves up before a show by watching our guitarist Dave do multiple backflips, spitting beer all over each other, or laughing at memes.

Tell us about your most memorable show.
The most memorable would be our show at HQ, which was our first all ages event. Mat fell off the stage and almost got knocked out by Dave doing some crazy swings with his guitar. Surprisingly, that was our best set, even with all of these crazy things happening… Vodka is never good before a show.

What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
Parkway Drive or Veil Of Maya. This speaks for itself, those guys are insane!

What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
Matriarch by Veil Of Maya. The vocals are immaculate and well produced, and the instrumental is the craziest shit we’ve heard in a very long time.

What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
Our latest release is a single titled “Ignite The Flame”. We have been working alongside one of the hardest working producers in Australian metal, Roland Lim. The guy worked with Make Them Suffer to produce Neverbloom. He is the most dedicated and talented dude we’ve had on board for our music. He’s a fucking Godsend! It was personally an extremely difficult time for our Mat as the lyrics were brutally emotional and unforgiving. It was a very trying time as a group recording the song, but hopefully it turned out well for anyone who gives us the time of day to listen to it.

If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Red Bull is the reason we survived our last recording session… I mean, we must have bought $300 worth of the stuff!

Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
We enjoy putting music out, we love playing shows and putting on the craziest performances we can. We are always putting 200% into our work, and to be completely honest, we just want our music heard. We have a vision of helping people get through shit in their lives, and to help one person through our music would be our way of paying it forward in this insane music scene.

Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Come on, Kerry King from Slayer! I wanna comb that shit whilst feeding the dude grapes – that’s how awesome his beard is.
