Fresh Fruit: Eat Your Heart Out
Eat Your Heart Out
What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
I can remember Crisis Control was one, but can’t think of any others.
Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
Muswellbrook – you’ll know you’re there when you smell the coal dust. Also, Young and the gigantic cherry bunch.
Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Caitlin: vocals – the ability to sense when cats and dogs are nearby.
Will: guitar – the ability to tell when cooked chicken is still raw on the inside.
Andrew: guitar – high functioning kidneys.
Dom: bass – the ability to instantly tell the time of any city on the planet.
Jake: drums – the ability to know precisely when the lawn needs to be mowed.
Name your three biggest influences.
Meat Loaf taught us to love, Black Flag taught us to fight, and Olivia Newton-John taught us to fuck. [This is my favourite answer of any Fresh Fruit yet – Ed.]
What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
“Did you see The Walking Dead / Game of Thrones / Always Sunny?”
What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
Jake and Caitlin do a proper warm up before each show, usually backstage or in the van. The rest of us just have a few drinks to make sure we’re loosey-goosey and ready for a good time.
Tell us about your most memorable show.
Earlier this year, we played at the Maitland leg of Groovin The Moo: a show we won’t be forgetting any time soon! We played the triple j stage, straight after L-Fresh The Lion, which was a hard act to follow, but it got us all pretty pumped to go on and do our thing. We then spent the rest of the day drinking free beer and watching sick bands. The hospitality of the staff and crew was excellent also.
What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
Brand New, because it’ll never happen.
What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
Opera Oblivia by Hellions would have to be the most exciting thing to be released of late. Riffs and banger choruses!
What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
Earlier this year, we released a three-track EP, Carried Away, and you should buy it because we used fancy guitars and amplifiers on it.
If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
We all play Fender guitars, so that would be rad.
Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
Because we won’t hesitate to stab our friends in the back and gouge out the eyes of our enemies!
Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Drew from Totally Unicorn is a major contender.
