Fresh Fruit: 2319
What other names did you consider calling yourselves?
At first, we were going to call ourselves Punishment, but then we thought it was pretty ‘how ya garn’ and decided to change it up.
Where are you from and what would be the most recognisable local landmark?
We’re all from the northern suburbs of Adelaide, and the most recognisable landmark is probably the non-stop network of roadworks that are always popping up.
Who is in your band, what do they play and what is their non-musical superpower?
Nathan is our vocalist, and his superpower is dank facial hair.
Sam plays drums, and his superpower is breaking windows with his fist.
Matt plays guitar, and his superpower is shouting dinner.
Jai plays bass, and his superpower is sleeping on the job.
Name your three biggest influences.
The Acacia Strain are definitely up there. Shinto Katana and Gucci Mane, too.
What’s the usual first topic of conversation when you take a break at rehearsal?
Pokemon Go, and what happened last week on RAW.
What’s your pre-show warm-up routine?
Arrive. Raise hell. Leave.
Tell us about your most memorable show.
That’s a toss up between supporting Make Them Suffer back in January, or going over to Victoria to play our second show with the homies in Alpha Wolf. We had just played our first show two days before that and hit the road with about a day’s notice, and didn’t get to the spot until just before the show started.
What band would you most like to share the stage with and why?
It’d have to be either The Acacia Strain or Brutality Will Prevail – those bands have been favourites for ages, and would be hectic to play with.
What’s the most exciting album you’ve listened to recently?
That new Chance the Rapper joint is dope. Still Brazy has been spinning non-stop for the last couple weeks, too.
What is your latest release and why should we buy it?
We put our demo out right at the start of the year – if you like breakdowns and free tunes, you should cop it!
If you could be endorsed by one company, who would it be?
Someone get us an endorsement with Ferrari so we can replace our shitty cars.
Why are you going to make it to the top over all the other contenders in the musical arena?
That’s a tough question, especially with so many Australian bands killing it right now. We feel like we’re bringing a fresh take on the heavy hardcore style that everyone loves, and it seems to resonate well with the audience when we play it live.
Other than Dave Grohl, who has the best beard in rock?
Beards are lame. Shave that peach fuzz and get that smoothness going.
