Cephalic Carnage

Misled by Certainty

Relapse/Riot!

Deathcore can be a really dirty made-up word – incessant metronomic drumming, directionless vocal hemorrhaging, extreme metal that has taken its adjective too literally. Cephalic Carnage are the ultimate in anti-deathcore; actively opposing all of these things with experimentalism and creative bombast. This is their magnum opus, the third film in a formative trilogy. 2005’s Anomalies set up a climax ultimately realised by 2007’s Xenosapien and Misled by Certainty. It’s an epilogue that summarises, surpasses and expands on the stories of both. Many who thought there was nothing left for Cephalic to say after the closing notes of “Ov Vicissitude” will be shocked from their headphones by the dynamic technicality of “Ohrwurm”, the sax-laden 12-minute doom of closer “Repangaea”. This generation’s Cryptopsy is also what Cryptopsy always aspired to be but forced the pieces together rather than fitting them, so welcome to Misled by Certainty – the perfect extreme metal jigsaw.
