Anvil: The Story Of Anvil
Review: Lachlan Marks
Pitched as “the real life Spinal Tap” this Canadian doco far exceeds that tagline. Yes, it’s freakin’ hilarious but it’s also as heartwrenching as it gets. Best friends who vowed as teenagers to never let their heavy metal dream die are now in their 50s, broke, depressed yet still plugging away. Lars Ulrich and Slash call them influences but they’re lucky to get their mates out to a show. They’ve been offered a European tour – will they finally return to their ‘80s glory or burn out and fist fight their way to the bottom? Arguably the best rock doco of the year, see the next issue of Blunt for a full review and in-depth interview with the dildo toting frontman “Lips”.
