Itunes: The Night Before The Morning After

The band formerly known as A Year To Remember have changed into Wherewolves, and nothing short of a silver bullet is going to stop them.

It’s never ideal for an established band to have to change its name. But in light of the recent runaway success of US pop-punk/hardcore crossover act A Day To Remember, similarly named local synth-laden indie-popsters A Year To Remember had little choice but to make the switch. Ladies and gentlemen, it is now my pleasure to introduce you to Wherewolves…

“It’s always shit to have to change names but we believe it is for the best,” says drummer Jared Tredly. “We felt the timing couldn’t have been much better once it became apparent that a name change was a must. Better to get the name change out before the release of our latest EP and just keep moving upwards.”

Despite the new moniker, it’s business as usual for the Melbourne four-piece, as they continue to ascend at a rapid rate.

“Things have stepped up for us as a band in the last few months,” Tredly confirms, “But that was happening regardless of the name change. We are continuing in the same direction, with the same goals in mind.”

Wherewolves’ debut EP, The Night Before | The Morning After, follows on from where A Year To Remember’s 2008 EP, Targets, left off. In creating the five songs that comprise the new effort, Tredly says the band tapped into a special bond they all share.

“Being that we’re all good friends and go through a lot rad and bad times together we all felt connected to the tracks and it brought about a real cohesion. We all think this EP is the best we’ve ever done.”

Having just come off the road with MC Lars, where they were not only supporting the US nerdcore rap king but also playing as his backing band each night, Wherewolves will make an appearance with All Time Low and Set Your Goals on the Take Action! Tour in June, before taking time out to cook up a new batch of tunes.

“We’ve got a few tracks up our sleeve that we have been quietly working on,” the drummer reveals. “They’re currently on the back-burner. But as a band we’re always writing so we will be getting stuck into that as soon as we get back home from the MC Lars tour.
